"Fourever" Sweet: Here's how we celebrated our twins' 4th birthday party!

"Fourever" Sweet: Here's how we celebrated our twins' 4th birthday party!

It seems there’s always a last-second curveball on our boy/girl twins’ birthdays. I’ll never forget when I planned for MONTHS to put together the most perfect first birthday party for Ames and Joules in 2018. And an hour before their party started, we had a torrential downpour of rain. I remember looking out the front window watching all of the rain flooding the streets and all of the cars parked out there. Birthdays are exciting, but they’re not supposed to be THAT kind of exciting! Right?

Well, their 4th birthday party this year was full of more unwelcome surprises! I planned for quite some time for this party— from designing custom t-shirts to a custom birthday cake to renting a bounce house and more. Our son, Ames, had come down with a respiratory virus the week of his birthday. He had fevers off and on all week for which I took him to the pediatrician. I was so worried, but hopeful that it would resolve by Saturday (when the party would take place). He had missed basically the entire week of school, and I just kept him resting and taking plenty of Tylenol and ibuprofen to help him feel better. After several nights of persistent fever-spiking (up to 102-103 degrees), we woke up the morning of their 4th birthday party and knew we had to take him to urgent care. Turns out, he was also positive for strep throat. We got some antibiotics started, gave him some Motrin and called our entire family to cancel the party. Our plan was to just proceed with celebrating only as a family of 4. To our surprise, the grandparents STILL wanted to come over (while keeping a healthy distance). And we were able to safely celebrate with them while not letting all of the party festivities/decor go to waste. Such a relief!

With boy/girl twins, coming up with a party theme can be tricky—because I definitely wanted to appeal to both genders. Knowing both of my kids enjoy candy, I felt a “FOUR-ever sweet” theme would be perfect—AND EASY. So here are all of the party supply details that thrilled Ames and Joules to no end! For anyone trying to think of how to celebrate their kid(s) 4th birthday, this one will surely be a home run! Enjoy!

Here is where I purchased the party supplies for anyone that’s wondering:

  • Birthday cake: Daisy Cakes Dallas - This was my first time using them and they KNOCKED it out of the park! I originally asked the bakery I typically use to bring my cake concept to life, but they said they couldn’t (not sure if it was too hard). When I went to Daisy Cakes and explained what I wanted, they said if I can dream it, they can make it! And they surpassed my expectations by a long shot. They even gave us 2 free cupcakes, too! Will definitely be using them again for all future birthday celebrations!

  • Custom birthday t-shirts: Find them from this shop on Etsy.

  • “Fourever Sweet” balloons: Find them here on Amazon.

  • Candyland theme balloon arch: Find it here on Amazon - These balloons were pretty time-consuming to set up. I spent several hours on it. So word to the wise: reserve extra time the day before the party to put them together, search on Youtube on how to put it together so you can see how it’s done, and then also use a portable balloon pump to save time (and your lungs!) Here is the balloon pump we used.

  • Lollipop Rainbow Twists: Find them here on Amazon.

  • Bounce house: Fun 4 All DFW Party Rentals

  • Number 4 Yard Balloons: Balloons Now

  • Colorful Circle Paper Garland: Find it here on Amazon.
